A Short Version of the Complete Guide of the 7 Chakras

Be Inspired

In this short version, of the complete guide of the 7 chakras, I like to show the person, who is interested, what it is about the chakras, what are they and what do they do.

The people of the eastern world, especially India, have known the chakras for thousands of years. Chakras are energy wheels (see picture below), rotating in circles along the spine, at the back, and at the front. The word Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning “wheel of light” or “vortex”.

What does a Chakra actually do?

The chakra system is important to the holistic medicine to find the cause of a health issue. It gets the same acknowledgment to a diagnosis as all the other body systems like the blood, -nervous,-endocrine system, just to name a few.

Unfortunately, the western allopathic medicine hasn’t, yet, caught up in it to see the actual value in the chakra and meridian system as their eastern colleagues do.

The whole chakra system is an “all in one” connection.

Even though the chakras might be explained as separate, they are actually flowing into each other all the time. Meaning, if one chakra is out of balance it does have an impact on the other chakras as well, but its function will also be taking care off by the following or previous chakra.

This is making sure that energy still will flow and supports the whole body as much as it can. This will be especially important to any recovery after an accident or a chronic illness.

However, the chakras are not just there for the support of our physical body, no, our chakra system also does regulate and maintain the healthy function of our emotional, mental and spiritual bodies as well.

Besides a healthy and balanced chakra, there can be a weak (blocked/ closed) or an overactive (excess) chakra. The chakra system reacts, like any other vital system, to certain situations like shock, fear or joy. I.e. we can get a cramping feeling in the stomach area by feeling fear, or having butterflies in our stomach when being in love.

How many Chakras are there?

There are 7 Major chakras, but to be precise, the count would be actually infinite.

The following list is a short, but comprehensive version, of a more complex guide about the 7 chakras. It is more suitable for any beginner who likes to be acquainted with the subject but might feel overwhelmed otherwise with too much information.

I always believe that you need to start somewhere and build your way up.

Stay tuned for more in depths information about each chakra.

In the meantime, I hope you will find this short version informative enough to want to know and explore more.

The use of Tools to Raise the Vibration and to Balance of the Chakra System

The following tools are just a few suggestions what you can do to balance the function of your chakra system as well as raising your overall vibration too.

You can choose what is more to your liking and leave the rest behind or if you are still not sure which one is more suitable for you, try one at the time and see how it does feel to you. If you like more than one, no problem, you can choose and use more than one at the same time.

For example, wear a specific color and a crystal/gemstone and meditate once a day. You can’t overdo it or do not enough. We are all humans, but still different in how we handle things’. Just listen to your Intuition (or gut feeling) and try what does feel good to you. As long, you are doing something to change whatever you like to have changed in your life, you are doing it right.

Chakra Function

MEDITATION:

A meditation of only 5-10 minutes once a day will increase your vibration over time. Sometimes after only 2 weeks, people will notice a positive change like a change of thought patterns, attitude to certain subjects, more general vitality, just to name a few.

Meditation can be done with or without music. Music has to be non-vocal and should give you calmness and relaxation when you listen to it.

Visualization:

Visualization can be done even with your eyes open when you can daydream you also can visualize.

Put one chakra in front of your “eyes” and visualize the color, which represents the chakra, is cleaning out any dark spots and let the chakra vibrate clear and healthy.

Colors:

You can easily support your chakras with colors. To do so try, for example, for 10 days to work with one color and closely observe what it does to you energetically. You can wear every day one piece of cloth in the color of the chakra you are working with. Sometimes just a scarf or an undergarment is good enough.

CRYSTAL & GEMS:

To have one or two crystals/gems are sometimes all that it takes to feel better. It doesn’t matter how small they are but, you should be able to wear and carry them with you without feeling stopped doing your daily activities.

Necklace or, tumbled stones carried in your pockets near your body, are good choices. To clean them once in a while is necessary too.

AFFIRMATION:

Write down an affirmation or two on a piece of paper and speak it out loud (if possible) multiple times throughout the day.

AROMATHERAPY:

If you are aware that you are not having an allergic reaction to any essential oils, this tool is especially a very good one to use. Most essential oils are being used in a diffuser or a special oil lamp. However, sometimes just taking a few good sniffs throughout the day is plenty.

Putting a few drops into the bathtub or in a foot bath is very soothing and relaxing.

EXERCISE:

If you, like me, hiding from exercise, you can still do something without feeling guilty all the time. Besides yoga, which is really awesome to balance the chakras, but not everyone’s cup of tea, there is still walking, swimming, dancing, even gardening to choose from.

Try also to walk barefoot, especially outdoors on the grass. By doing so, you are grounding yourself better, which will help you to stand your woman or man in everyday life.

Conclusion

I hope you can and will use the information I have provided in this article.

It is never too late to start with something new and, you might be surprised how wonderful it can be, to feel better and be more balanced to tackle all the things’ life sometimes can throw at us.

I also like to hear your own experience with the chakra system and if you like to do so please leave a comment below.

If you have more questions, I too encourage you to leave them in a comment. I am more than happy to answer them if I can.

Always have an outstanding day

  1. Syliva, I really want to thank you for enlightening me about the 7 main Chakras!

I had never really understood the idea of them, but as I’ve aged, I’ve become increasingly interested, not only in what makes me feel the way I do at times or the way that I am with people, but what affects the way others are, too.

In the small amount of knowledge that you just shared…small to you, vast to me… I learned that only my 3rd, 5th and 6th Chakras are balanced. I clearly need to work on myself!

After I read through the short descriptions of Chakras, I realized that there must be a thousand things I can change. I had no idea that Chakras had such varied affects on us. I guess I always thought it was a karma related thing.

Something that I have always believed in, but have not consistently practiced, is self affirmation. I do believe in who I am and I should tell myself about it more often because, when the time comes to identify yourself, these personal affirmations will not only remind you to do the right thing, but that action also reinforces the affirmation.

    Awesome article!

I will look forward to more about each Chakra!

    1. Thank you, John, for your time and your detailed comment in how you see and feel about chakras and how you like to know more about them.

First, I am in the process to write more in detail about each individual chakra.

Secondly, I like to remind you, as I do with my clients, that it is, indeed, very important to our overall health in how we see ourselves, talk about ourselves and, yes, think about ourselves.

If we are too stringent or too harsh with ourselves we can harm us in the long run, if we don’t stop.

Than, again, how can we if we don’t know about these things and how we can change them.

This is why I am so passionate to write about it and give people, hopefully, an understanding that  these subtle energies do have and make an impact in our lives and are not just a “New Age” thing.

  2. This is a great basic guide for chakras!  It’s amazing what a certain crystal or gemstone will do for you.  I have a rough tumbled “low-grade” emerald in my left palm while typing this.  There is nothing low-grade about it’s energy though!

I love that you tell people what I do about meditating.  Don’t worry how you are doing…just be doing, especially, doing something differently or, something new, if you want to change something that is stagnating.

Funy side note…I came to Oregon a few years ago to help a friend.  The only thing I’ve collected since I’ve been here is rocks!  I like to have enough rocks for EVERybodys’ chakras!

    1. Thanks, for your comment and sharing your own experience about working with “stones”.

I personally don’t grade crystals or gemstones as low or high grade, since it is my believe, that their vibration stays the same.

Therefore, if we can’t afford the higher price tag, the stone is still doing its “job” for what you have bought it.

The only thing we should keep in mind, and this is unfortunately also true, that there are “fake” stones out there too. Always ask where are they coming from and do a bit of research on your own.

My advice is, never buy a crystal or gemstone online. Do this always personal and get a feeling for the stone you like to purchase. 🙂

  3. Hello Sylvia,

This post was so wonderful to read.  I have heard of Chakras from time to time but never knew much about it.  Since you have given such a comprehensive overview of the subject matter, I really feel inclined to learn more.  Especially because it is a part of wholistic healing. Thank you for presenting a short version.  It was just right for me and easy and enjoyable to read.  I have bookmarked it to read more later.

A smile came to my face when I read walking as one of the tools to use.   I love bright colorful things, and I’m not surprised to see that it’s the color for the first chakra.  So focusing on a bright color is something I will practice right away.  Also when I finish my comments I’m going to look at the Chakra stones for myself and others for Christmas gifts.

Just as a side comment, I loved your site, it held good energy for me.

Thank you again and happy holidays!

    V. Pearl

    1. Thank you so much for your comment and for your insight on the topic.

I do love to educate and inform people about topics which still can have some bad reputation or, let’s say it this way, has some miss-information.

If you have a question on anything you can contact me anytime.

      Happy Holidays to you too

      Sylvia

  4. Hey Sylvia,

Wow! It is a wonderful read of the Chakras. Back home in India we were introduced to these Chakras to some extent. My maternal grandfather was a Pro. He comes by our house at least once in a year when he was alive. Our house goes to another dynamics with Yogasan, Pranayam, he gets different color stones for different people. My mother gets many colors. We kids make fun of him sometimes.

As I grew up, I see it in my system, have a better belief and truly I wish I could have really learnt from him. Reading the Chakras from your article, I felt truly awesome.

I can tell you, it really works with stones to heal your body. There are experts to offers these in India, where I grew up.

I love your pick to choose Chakras, the foundation of a healthy life. It is a comprehensive version. Wonderful images.

Thank you so much for the post.

    1. Thank You Anusuya, for your comment and this wonderful story about your grandfather.

When we are children we do miss-out sometimes on important things when our elders are trying to teach us, but I do believe, this is sometimes important too, so we can find the truth about things on our own terms.

Nevertheless, I also do agree with you about the crystals and gemstones and how wonderful they can assist us in our lives.

  5. Thank you, Sylvia. This was an enjoyable read learning more about the 7 chakras and the characteristics of each. I did not realize they had such an impact on health whether in balance or weak/overactive. The balancing tools was helpful as well. I have done some yoga, but mostly to improve injuries to my back by improving mobility and flexibility. I am looking forward to reading more. My wife works with a Reiki master occasionally. But that is a whole different subject.

    1. Thanks, Glen for your time in leaving a comment. I always say we are never too old, or too young 🙂 to learn something new.

The chakra system, as well the meridian system, are very important to keep us healthy and keep us going day in and day out.

Feel free to ask more questions when reading my other posts which are also about Reiki. Perhaps your wife like to read more about Reiki too.

  6. I must say that I found this article to be very interesting and helpful. Honestly, I have never believed in chakra but this post changed my mind. I must show this to my girlfriend, she like to meditate every single day and it truly relax her. We all live in that stressful time and I know that this can be very important for our health.

    1. Thank you for your comment and sharing your thoughts on the matter.

It is never too late to change our opinion on a subject, we are here on earth to learn and to grow and how this will happen is different for each of us.

  7. Hi Sylvia. I must congratulate you for such a nice article on the Chakras and how they influence the human life. Especially your points on how to balance the Chakras if they get out of balance somehow has influenced me a lot.

Can you tell us more about these Chakras? Whether these Chakras are in any way influenced by our past life or not?

    Thanks. GeeEss

  8. Thank you for sharing with us this wonderful post on 7 chakra. It seems a bit strange to me that stone, colour ,..can have relationship with our body system.

I was reading about all 7 chakra and I feel very attracted by the idea of knowing much about chakra and those stones which can help in increasing those said chakra.

I have bookmarked this website and I will be coming back to get more information about this new knowledge I get from you.

  9. I really loves this article it is informative, I have always want to learn more about chakra which people consider as spiritual energy. I am glad I found this article because now I know more about the importance of chakra and I will try my best to channel it, to make my health better giving me at least a long live, thanks for this post it is really helpful. Especially for those looking to for inner peace.

  10. That is a lot of information to absorb.  This is my first foray into Chakras and to be honest it is a little overwhelming.  Trying to keep all the colors, senses and characteristics of each chakra is pretty tough.  I will use this as a guide whenever i need to find out a specific thing about one of them,  Thanks for the informative article.

    1. Mike, there will be more coming where I do write about each chakra separately and in more detail.

However, I do get your point and my suggestion is, just taje one chakra at the time. There is no rush to swallow all this at once.

The chakra system is a highly complex and there is a lot actually to talk about. 🙂

I do appreciate your time and your comment
