How to use Reiki on Children & Animals

Using the Reiki Healing Energy on children and animals isn’t new at all it is rather gaining more popularity than ever before and to prove my point just use these keywords Reiki, children, animals in a search engine and you can see what I mean.

Reiki is a gentle, safe but powerful healing method. I have already written a few articles about Reiki which you will easily find here on my blog. However, in this article, I like to emphasize Reiki being used on children and animals.

Reiki on animals can be used for wild and domestic alike. There are ways in how to do it taught in Reiki Two Level. Nevertheless, to give you something to try out, even though you don’t use Reiki at all, will still give you an idea what Reiki can do.

Use your own “Healing” Energy

In my article “Everything is Energy under the Sun and behind the Moon” I wrote about the fact that energy, in general, is not something we can create because it always has and will exist, period. Therefore, energy can never be created nor destroyed it only can be transformed.

Why I am saying this and what has this to do with Reiki?

The word Reiki translates simply into “Universal Life Force Energy” and we all, humans and animals, belong to this universal life force energy. We are all energy beings and it doesn’t matter if we believe it or not, it simply is the fact.

No one other than Albert Einstein sums it up

Albert Einstein

“Everything is energy and that’s all there is. Match the frequency of the reality you want and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy. This is physics.”

That being said I like to propose an experiment where you, the reader, can perform easily at home or wherever you would like to try it out.

If you have a dog or a cat or any other animal, it doesn’t matter, you can do it by simply following these steps.

The Simple Steps

Choose a time when you know your animal likes to rest and by that I mean to lay down to sleep or whatever your beloved pet likes to do (grooming itself, watching out of the window and so forth), you get the drift.

It is important, more for you than for them, that they are not moving around and especially if you are unfamiliar by using Reiki or any other healing modality. As you know, this is a test for you and further to learn that sending energy with your hands is possible.

Cat receiving Reiki

Well, after your pet is somehow settled you too, will sit down being in their vicinity, then take a couple of deep breaths and relax.

When you are relaxed enough, you rub your hands together very vigorously and hold your hands, facing your palms towards the animal and just think of sending healing energy. This is the only intention on your part, sending healing energy to your pet.

Try to hold your hands that way for 3-5 minutes, at least, you always can hold longer if you like. If your arms are getting tired too quickly you can support them easily by using a big and sturdy pillow where you can rest your arms.

Dog receiving Reiki

What can happen is that your pet will suddenly notice what you are doing and either way will turn towards you and your hands or will stay where they are and proceed with their own thing.

Nevertheless, they will not walk away from it.

In my own experience with my cats and through testimonies from other pet owner’s, most animals will come to you, even jump into your lap and will enjoy having your hands gently put on them.

If this happens this is even more fantastic it shows that your animal not just loves you but it trusts you completely and what can be a bigger reward than this?

Try it out! Don’t get discouraged or anxious that it has to work. It might take a few attempts on your part and since you are new to this give yourself some time to adjust.

With a child, you almost proceed the same way. The best time for them would be a timeout or, you have them sitting on your lap watching their favorite show or movie.

I am saying this because this is a perfect time to put your energy “charged” hands on their shoulders, head or stomach area, wherever it feels natural for you and them to keep your hands.

Tender Years

The reaction you can expect from a child receiving healing energy is the fact, that they can get very quiet. A bubbly child will all of a sudden be quiet, even can get sleepy. Either way, it shows that their energy field is receiving “your” healing energy.

Some children even start to speak up, opening up to tell you something you don’t know of yet.

Nevertheless, they will react in a positive, perhaps for you as a parent, in an unfamiliarity way. May it be as it is, this is one of the best moments where you can help your child with almost everything, like:

  • Improving a health condition
  • Supporting their natural development
  • Helping them in their daily interactions

Children, as animals, are so open to receive any form of healing energy and since it is your energy you are safe in using it.

The other fact is, that when they have received enough energy they just walk away.

Giving Reiki to a Baby

I have experienced it multiple times and it always leaves a smile on my face to see how happy and relaxed now they are.

Why should you learn Reiki or any other Healing Modality?

I have been asked this question a lot and each time this is my answer.

To stay with Reiki, which translates as “Universal Life Force Energy“, is healing with pure “Divine Connection” and intent.

To attend a Reiki course the participant will learn how and why the connection to the Divine, the Source, or God (it really doesn’t matter how you like to name it) is “consciously” achieved; BTW, you are always, 24/7 connected to the “Higher Energy“, but who really thinks of it consciously?

I love Reiki

During the duration of the course, you will discuss topics like how and where to apply the Reiki energy on another person and yourself, what is the “Chakra System” and how does each chakra correlate to the physical body, what is the “Aura” and much more.

This is just a small selection of topics, but as you can see and also do understand, that if you like to apply healing energy professionally, there are a few pointers you need to be of aware and knowledgeable.

Chakra Positions on Animals

However, giving healing energy to your pets and children doesn’t require it (although, it doesn’t hurt if you do know more) you just do it as described above and see what happens. I am sure you will experience something new and probably will be amazed.

Always have a wonderful day!

  1. Yes, as Nathan is, I too am skeptical of this. But your article how to use Reiki on children and animals sparked my interest. My ex-girlfriend was into it and there may be some truth to it. Thank you for a very well written article. I found that it was extremely thought-provoking. I shall investigate further now that I have read it.

    1. Thanks, Simon for your response, appreciated.
I think it is important that people are skeptical and try things out first but also do their own research.
Never take anyone’s viewpoint for granted it might still be different for you.

However, I can assure you that it is worthwhile to try just give it time.
Like also to hear from you back. 🙂

  2. Hi Sylvia, such a great post on Reiki, I have experienced the healing through Reiki and was amazed at the way I felt. You did such a great job explaining the process and all that is involved. I am getting a new grangirl soon and will try this on her. I will give you an update when I do ~ riley roman

    1. Hi, Riley,
I do appreciate your comment and I certainly like to hear about your experience with your granddaughter.
I certainly like to gather more data from people about this form of giving healing energy.

      Thanks for your time 🙂

  3. Hello Sylvia,
A very lovely article indeed. Thanks for sharing. Today, I just groomed my puppy, bath, shave, and later, when he gets sleepy, I will try out your suggestion. I am excited.
I know the body can heal itself. I know that we are all just energy. It’s all about making the connection and seeing it in action.
    Thanks for sharing.

    1. Thank you, Michelle, for leaving a comment and for trying out to give energy to your puppy.
Please feel free to share your experience I certainly like to hear about it 🙂

  4. Hi Sylvia,
What a great article. I am going to try this on our cats and I will see their reaction and if it is what you have said here. Can’t see why not though. Like you said, energy is around and we are all connected whether we believe it or not. I choose to believe!
Thanks for sharing a really positive post that I am sure others will benefit from.
    Cheers, Sharon

    1. Hi, Sharon,

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. I can assure you if you try it out and have some patience too you can see that it really works.

I certainly would appreciate if you can leave another comment later and tell us about your experience. 🙂

  5. Kudos, to the author of this article. They have reaffirmed my way of thinking about universal energy. But admittingly I have never learned a way to harness my energy for use. I am anxious to test out this method.

      1. If I could, I would love a one on one talk about. Energy transfer. Until now, I always thought it was all about belief and positive thinking. Never heard of a physical process

  6. To be honest I would be extremely skeptical of something like this but I happened to have a good friend in college that was into this as well and after seeing him do his thing a few times I can say that there does seem to be some merit behind it all. Very interesting and informative post… thanks for sharing!

    1. Thanks, Nathan for being so honest because I do know that people, most of the time, are being skeptical and actually, in my opinion, there is nothing wrong with it.

However, I also do Know the fact that when people experiencing it they, all of a sudden, not become a believer per se but at least have gained the awareness that there is something there that can work and help to change and heal whatever the individual likes to achieve.
