The Complete Chakra Guide to the 7 Chakras Part Sixth – The 6th Chakra-

third-eye-chakra-featured-image

The 6th chakra is the second highest chakra of the whole chakra system, which we further will discuss in this article.

I do recommend, that you will read about the previously discussed chakras, starting with the 1st chakra, so you will get the full scope of the whole 7 chakras. I further do provide the links to the five previous chakras throughout the article.

However, you can read all about the seven chakras in this article, which does provide a more compact overview of the whole chakra system.

Let’s start.

What is the Chakra’s full name and where is it located on the Body?

The 6th chakra goes by two other names “The Brow Chakra” orThe Third Eye Chakra”, both are valid.

The Sanskrit name is Ajna (pronounced A-gy-na). The Location of this chakra is between the eyebrows, see picture below. It supports the Pituitary Gland, which is further known as the Master Gland to oversee the whole endocrine system and its proper function.

It has also a connection with the Pineal Gland, which is connected to the 7th chakra, which we further will discuss in the upcoming article about the 7th chakra.

Specifics of the 6th Chakra

The 6th chakra will activate the lessons which will lead us to wisdom. This chakra is all about wisdom, imagination, intuition, higher understanding, and enlightenment. It is the center of our higher mental powers as well as our intellectual capacity to distinguish intuition from personal willpower. Furthermore, it is the highest of command for the central nervous system.

The Brow chakra will connect us with the world beyond our five senses, it will teach us to go beyond all this superficial appearance and to find deeper truths of creativity and wisdom.

albert-einstein-quote
Albert Einstein

Through the 6th chakra, we can open ourselves to the universal energy which will allow us to fulfill our life’s purpose. If an individual has strong characteristics of the 6th chakra, they will use their intuitive abilities for the greater good and will be open to new information. The Soul, Spirit and the Ego are balanced and the individual will be able to create their life and to manifest their dreams, also for the greater good.

The 6th Chakra and the Emotion Illusion

It is being said that illusion might be of comfort to some individuals and will change, more than we can imagine, into delusion. However, the mainstream understanding of illusion/delusion is mostly nothing else than being worried, having fear of the future or just won’t or can’t accept one’s own ability to visualize or imagine.

Both attributes, visualization, and imagination are being dismissed as not “real”, being seen only as a hoax of our minds. In the following paragraph, we will hopefully, understand that this “hoax” of our mind doesn’t exist and that we indeed do need and use the power of visualization and imagination to create the life we live.

the-brow-chakra
The Brow Chakra

Yes, everyone does visualize and imagine things, even those critics and so-called “Realists”, it is a part of who we are as humans, being one as Mind, Spirit and Soul.

The Strength of the 6th Chakra

Symbols are a powerful tool and we like to use them in our lives in so many ways. When I speak of symbols, it is not the only understanding in a religious manner. We like to use symbols in our business logos, we scribble (subconsciously) them on our notes and we also like them to wear them in the form of some jewelry.

We have come far since we talked about the Heart Chakra and have now entered the realm of symbols. Symbols can speak to us with the representatives of archetypal energies. We can experience these energies in the form of fantasies (imagination) and in our dreams (visualization).

These symbols are communicating with our whole brain through archetypal energy. Archetypes, by definition, are nonphysical, psychic energy templates and through symbols become integrated into our consciousness.

The individual is getting their inspiration through symbols rather than language. We need to understand that this is a more symbolic way, to know, that these symbols, as they appear in our lives, are a way of spiritual communication. Through the understanding of symbols, we are also able to embrace the archetypal energies which will further lead us to our dreams.

The 3rd Eye Chakra

Through dreams, the subconscious mind is connected to the conscious mind. The mystery of dreams will be unlocked by uniting the soul and the spirit, the individual and the universal part, into a dynamic whole of existence. Dreams are always an alternative to the “cruel” and “harsh” lived reality.

Albert Einstein

Dreams are a valid opportunity to our ordinary reality to see things in a new light. To open our imagination, to have vision, insight, even have clairvoyance, we need to think in new productive ways.

Dreams will open for us a better understanding of our hidden feelings, desires, needs, unused talents and why we might reject ourselves. Dreams like to deliver often very irrational images that can uproot the conscious mind, open it to something much larger.

However, dreams can bring us answers to our problems which our conscious mind was unable to solve. To really understand the deep message of our dreams, we need to use our intuition in order to find their meaning.

What are the most Physical Problems?

If there is a blocked or even a closed Brow Chakra there can be some physical problems which can lead to these possible physical conditions.

  • Difficulties to concentrate
  • Depression
  • Headaches
  • Hormone problems
  • Pain in the eyes and head
  • Unable to make decisions/Slow thinking
  • Sinus conditions
  • Sleep disturbances

Note: Please, keep in mind, though, that sometimes having one of these conditions doesn’t always immediately suggest that there is a problem. The whole chakra system is a living, non-static system and like our blood pressure, for example, will fluctuate throughout the day.

What are the Signs of a Weak or of an Overactive 6th Chakra?

When the 6th chakra shows signs of being weak the individual might experience a lack of imagination which can lead to having some difficulties in seeing ahead, or what has or needs to be done, now.

Some individuals also can easily lose their “heads” when under stress, their lack of poor vision (imaginary and physical), and of poor memory in what to do next, in a given situation, is paralyzing to them. Therefore, they can make a “wrong” decision during a time of intense pressure, which can have a snowball effect on other areas of their lives.

Now, when this chakra faces to be overactive it can show up in having some great difficulties of concentrating, keeping the mind and thoughts focused on the task of following the “red threat”. Furthermore, obsession also can be a major sign of an overly active 6th chakra.

cartoon-third-eye-exam
Third Eye Exams

The individual might be fixated on something which might be illogical to others and therefore can’t be persuaded otherwise. When this behavior won’t change it can be followed by experiencing further deep delusions and or hallucinations. Furthermore, experiencing nightmares on a nightly basis is also a possible sign of an overactive chakra.

How to get to a balanced State with the 6th Chakra?

A healthy or more harmonious Third Eye Chakra will show an individual with a strong intuition and perception of their surroundings and, most of all, of their own persona of who they are. The individual can embrace their imagination without having any doubts and through their insight can better understand the world they are living in.

Furthermore, by being able to integrate all the information on many different levels, the individual can think and live holistically being “one” with nature. Many individuals who also have advanced intellectual skills might even have a condition called dyslexia, which, unfortunately, is being misjudged and misunderstood by most of the educational systems in the world.

Note: However, there are some exceptions to the rules, or to the misunderstanding of this condition, which is understood by the “Anthroposophy” movement, founded by Rudolf Steiner. The anthroposophic educational system is represented by the “Waldorf School”. This school system is integrating all the possible traits the individual has brought with them into the world to become the person they can be having addressed all their intellectual and creative traits and skills. It is, so far, one of the best child education systems out there in comparison to any public education worldwide.

What is the Emotional State of the 6th Chakra?

At the 6th chakra, we have reached a state where emotions from all previous chakras will have a huge influence on the healthy function of this chakra.

When we feel fear (1st chakra), when we feel guilt (2nd chakra), shame (3rd chakra), grief (4th chakra), or can’t distinguish between lie and truth (5th chakra) the 6th
chakra can reflect these emotions in multiple ways.

To be too worried, having fear of the future or being too overly sensitive to other people and their emotions and behavior, this chakra can be a sounding board, “torturing” the individual with a more, properly, bleak outcome to any situation it might face or already been in.

Therefore, it is important to keep the 6th chakra on a better-balanced level, keep the negative emotions, as much as possible, to a minimum. To reach this balanced more stable emotional state the following tools, starting with using colors, can help to get there.

Colors

Colors are wonderful and everyone has, at least, one favorite color which they are like to wear or being surrounded by. Sometimes, though, we can overdo it when we have a favorite color, this is always an indication that we either lack the color’s energy or we actually have too much of it.

third-eye-image

Nevertheless, wearing a color to balance a chakra can be done very discreetly without anyone else to know about it. You can wear the color as an undergarment or as sleepwear. Furthermore, wearing a scarf is also an easy way. It is your choice in how you like to do it.

The color of this chakra is Indigo and the complementary color is Yellow. The frequency of the color is 670-700 THz (TeraHertz).

Crystal & Gemstones

Crystal and Gemstones are one of the easiest tools anyone can, “discreetly”, use without revealing the reason why. Jewelry comes into the mind where anyone can use these wonderful stones without being “outed” why they are wearing them.

However, if you are a person who doesn’t like wearing any sort of jewelry you still can wear one of the recommended stones in the pocket of your jacket or your pants. You only have to make sure that they are being worn the closest to your body. Keeping one of them in your purse or overcoat isn’t the way to go and won’t do anything for you.

crystal-and-gemstones-for-the-6th-chakra
Crystal & Gemstones for the 6th Chakra

The same goes for keeping a crystal or gemstone on your desk at work or on your nightstand at home. It will help the overall atmosphere of the room, place, etc., but it won’t have much impact on you as the individual. Therefore, it is crucial to wear them in your personal energy field.

Here are my picks of crystals and gems for balancing the 6th chakra.

  • Amethyst
  • Azurite
  • Diamond
  • Lapis Lazuli
  • Moonstone
  • Quartz Crystal
  • Silver

Meditation

Meditation is always a fine solution to be used and it really doesn’t take much of your time either. You don’t have to do it each and every day. If you are new to it, try it out once a week and, perhaps, after getting used to it, increase it to 2-3 per week.

This meditation below is a guided one and therefore suitable for a beginner. Enjoy!

Affirmation

An affirmation being done regularly, actually daily, can change your thought patterns about a certain situation, event, problem, etc. over time. However, using affirmations takes commitment on your part and as I said, needs to be done daily for a longer period of time before seeing any results.

Some clients of mine, where I have recommended using affirmations, have often told me that they stopped using them because they didn’t see quickly enough positive results.

Using affirmations on its own is a long way to go and I can’t or won’t promise you that you will see quick results in a week or two. However, what I can promise you is the fact, that they do work if you just stick to it and keep it up.

In my opinion, you can’t expect that something which is so deep, as a faulty truth, embedded in your subconscious mind, will change in a short period of time. Nevertheless, using affirmations is a great tool and if you have become used to it and it has become second nature to you, you will see a change.

To help you to get your chakra(s) balanced I further do recommend that you, in accordance with using affirmations, you also use one of the other tools described in the article.

Here are some possible affirmations you can try out, but feel free to create your own affirmations as well.

third-eye-affirmations

Write 1-3 affirmations (not too many of them at once), which will describe best your personal situation, on a piece of paper and read them out loud, if possible, or say them silently at least 3x throughout the day.

If you have become customary to it you can say it silently where ever you are, standing in line somewhere, in the car or on the bus. The use of affirmations is that easy.

  • I can see solutions to every situation
  • I see my intuition as a gift from God
  • I can see that each day brings me an opportunity to do good things for humanity
  • I can see the importance of silence and stillness in my life
  • I know that all the answers to all my questions are within me
  • I trust that whatever comes to me is for my greatest goodness and joy
  • I completely trust my feelings
  • I can see now that I am the source in creating my life the way I would like it to be

Feed your Body the right Food

Good, and nourishing food is essential to our well-being and we can’t exist without food for very long either. To get us going and keep our body’s function on an optimum level, we need to make sure that we watch what we put into our mouth.

Fast food, as the main source of food intake, isn’t the way to go and the same goes for eating too starchy, too fatty and or too sweet foods on a daily basis. However, I can’t tell you and certainly won’t in telling you how to eat. I only can show you an alternative on how to incorporate certain foods, which are also good to help the 6th chakra to function more properly, in your busy life.

How you will doing it is up to you. Here are some foods and herbs you might be interested in trying out.

Food:

  • Broccoli
  • Eggplant
  • Figs
  • Red Grapes
  • Kale

Herbs:

  • Red Clover
  • St. John’s Wort
  • Stevia
  • Usnea
  • Wild Yam

Aromatherapy

Using essential oils is a favorite of mine and even though I do love to smell them, I will use them also in my bath tube, when giving myself a nice foot bath and some of the oil can also be used as a topical application, meaning, you can put them directly on your skin.

Note: “Please, be advised, that some of the essential oils can not be used on the skin on their own because it can cause skin irritation; only use these oils in a diluted form with either water or with a carrier oil. Please, always make sure which of the essential oils is safe and can be used topically and which oils are not. If you cannot find any specifics on the bottle’s label do not use them in their pure form on your skin, only diluted. Furthermore, make sure that you are not sensitive to any or specific essential oils.

If you use an essential oil you don’t need very much of it just 2-3 drops into a diffuser or bath water of your choice.

For the 6th chakra here are a few essential oils I do prefer and recommend.

  • Frankincense
  • Lavender
  • Myrrh
  • Patchouli
  • Sage
  • Ylang Ylang

Summary

Now, with this article about the 6th chakra, we almost have reached a full circle with addressing each individual chakra of the chakra system, only one more to go.

The Brow Chakra, as you can see, is a very important and influential chakra who has more than one component to keep us healthy as a whole. It is the key to help us to keep and have a healthy outlook in life as well a healthy and a stable, conscious mind, which is working in unity with the subconscious mind, where our dreams and visions are coming from giving us possible answers to the questions we have in life.

If our mind is too “closed up” so is this chakra and we might be plagued with a huge fear of life itself, unable to face the future, nor having any visions on how to do things the right way because of the fear and being worried all the time, therefore, we can’t decide.

Note: In my personal opinion, and I am being very blunt here, the many psychological issues we are facing in our modern societies is the result of an out of balanced 6th chakra. I know of the fact that mainstream medicine won’t accept the fact that we, as humans, are more than skin, bones, organs, and blood, we are spirit and soul too. The awareness and emphasis on “Mental Health” have increased in the last 10 years and this is certainly a good step in the right direction. However, how it gets dealt with isn’t enough keeping the soul part, or the higher persona in us, out of the equation, apart from the holistic, the whole. There is still hope, though, to gain more awareness about these subtle energy forms like the chakra system or the meridian system. It is literally illogical not to integrate them since we, now, can prove that we are surrounded by “unseen” energies due to “Kirlian” imagery and “Aura” imaging. There is no denying anymore that there is much more than the eye can see.

We still have to do our part to spread more awareness and gain more knowledge about these topics. I certainly will do my part in bringing you information, not to persuade you to believe in something which is not on your scope, but rather to help to see things also in a different perspective, perhaps to help you to keep an open mind, plain and simple.

As always, I do appreciate your own opinion, experience, and thoughts on the subject matter and therefore would love to hear from you by leaving a comment below.

Please, stay tuned for the 7th chakra to be discussed, coming up soon.

I wish you always to have an outstanding day

  1. Sylvia, I found this such an engaging topic. You explained what the 6th Chakra was, its location and how it impacts the quality of one’s life. You brought up the extremes of the 6th Chakra and the importance of maintaining a balance. Let me tell you what I really liked about this article. But first, I would have liked to see the definition of a chakra. I got the gist of it but I feel getting that out of the way at the start would remove any distractions.

You delved into the spiritual realm of the human mind. I loved how you emphasized that it is hard to maintain true physical wellbeing without maintaining a balanced frame of mind. The 6th Chakra’s role in this was so interesting. I had no idea about the existence of phenomena such as the Chakras. Near the end, you summarized what the six Chakras addressed. Although you hadn’t brought up the discussion of the last, 7th Chakra, I would have liked to have seen it in that summary. I think that the summary put the 6th Chakra into perspective without having to read about the previous five.

I learned about the dangers of not having the 6th Chakra in balance. At that point, I wondered what one had to do to keep the 6th Chakra in balance. Of course, as I read through the tension was relieved when I saw you cover the solutions for this. I would like to see you state that you would be addressing this area at the end. But it was important to read the cause of the problems first.

The Einstein quotes and other pictorial ideas were brilliant.

Overall I found this article so educational. It addressed such an important subject to every one. It almost borders on the mystical realm.

Glad I came across your website and specifically the 6th Chakra. I will bookmark your site for future reference.

    1. Thank you for your comment and your questions.

The 7th chakra couldn’t be mentioned any further since it is the last one and the article for it is still in the making. If you will read the article about the first chakra it is explained there what the word chakra means.

You also should read about the previous chakras to get an understanding of the whole chakra system, especially when you are totally new to this subtle energy concept. Someone also needs to understand all the functions, ups, and downs, of the chakra before being supplied with any solution. To build up tension is actually wanted in this article.

Please, feel free to read more about the previous chakras and stay tuned for the 7th chakra article coming soon.

  2. Hello, Sylvia, I appreciate your thorough and comprehensive sharing about the sixth chakra. I’ve studied metaphysics for many years and your treatment of the “The Third Eye” chakra is the most complete and objective that I’ve read. I like the stand you take regarding dyslexia and psychological issues resulting from an out of balance sixth chakra.  you’ve inspired me to read the entire series.

My question is do you have general recommendations for practices to balance and maintain harmony through all of the chakras?

    Thank you so much!

    Austin

    1. Hi, Austin,

Thank you for your time and leaving a comment. To answer your question if there are any practices to balance all the chakras, the answer is Yes.

The best way, in my opinion, to balance al l7 chakras is to meditate and or do yoga. You can find lots of great, easy to listen to chakra music which will do just that, balancing the whole chakra system.

If you like to do some exercise, especially yoga, there you also will balance the whole chakra system.

I hope this is answering your question.

      Sylvia

  3. Hello,

I love the topic of chakras. This type of topic can really bring people in. I believe in everything that you have said here. Anyone looking for information about your topic will be very happy with your post.

It explains all of the things that go into people’s beliefs of how their mood and overall spirit is. More and more people are really starting to learn about things that can give them peace.

    Great job

  4. Your article on the 6th Chakra was very detailed and insightful. I hadn’t previously read about the first 5 chakras so I love that you included the links to those articles inside the page I was already on! It made it that much easier for me to access the information. There are so many different ways you can practice opening the 3rd eye that I didn’t previously know and I learned about it reading your article. The foods you can eat and the essential oils that go hand in hand with the 6th chakra is amazing information that I will definitely use in the near future! Thank you so much for the post!

    1. Thank you for your comment and I am happy that you also have found my article about the 6th chakra insightful and helpful.

Please, feel free to ask questions in the future and I certainly will answer them if I can.

  5. Thank you so much for clarifying on what is the 6th chakra and why it is important for us as a whole. It is funny my favorite color is blue tones so definitely indigo is also my favorite. I have noticed that my mood has been swinging lately. I am too quick to be angry and too quick emotionally for everything. I think it is a combination of both stress and hormones imbalances.  I have just recently found 2 chocolate zists in both of my ovaries, that definitely put me in even more stress since they are big and I have to take care of it soon. It is good to have both ways of healing me, i do not only trust the modern medicine. Deep down I still do believe that our mind is over our body. I will practice eating healthy and will meditate more. Cannot wait to read your review on the 7th chakra.

    1. Thank you for your comment and for sharing your personal experience on the matter.

I certainly wish you all the best in what you are facing right now, regarding your personal health.

If my article on the 6th chakra could be of help, in some way, to clarify certain things I am personally glad for you and I hope that your health is quickly back to normal again.

      All the best to you

      Sylvia

  6. This is really an awesome article. I must commend you for taking the time to share this article you have really done some great job. I understand every bit about the 6th chakra but I think I will have to go and read from chakra 1 so that I will have full knowledge and not half knowledge on this. Thanks for sharing this informative and educative post

    1. Thanks for leaving a comment and I certainly agree and also do recommend that you start, reading about the 1st chakra, and work your way up. It makes, in my opinion, many things much clearer and better to understand.

  7. This is an interesting article and yes some people may be very skeptical about such a topic but to be honest, we do not know the full possibilities of our minds, bodies and the universe around us. For years even those who do not believe in or are even not bound to religious beliefs have reported the experience of outer-body experiences, paranormal activity and events they are unable to explain, which even until today science can not provide an explanation for.

To be honest, if we talk about existence on a psychological level, we are single entity consciousness within an organic mind whom experience existence in an organic shell through signal interpretation produced by our nervous system and brains. They are far high level things in this world which we are still not aware of and probably do not even interact with. People dismiss topics like the chakra as they only take a demonstrable and scientific approach to reality when reality is far more than what we can easily perceive.

You article is very informative and engaging, the associated colors are a nice added touch and there is plenty of quality material to read.

    1. Thank you, Shane, for your detailed comment and insight.

I agree with you that the scientific world is still too far away to accept, at least, that there is more to our entire existence than we can understand or see with our own eyes.

To believe that only what can be seen, or what is been written in black on white must be the truth. It is, in my opinion, that this kind of thinking is mostly filled with fear of the unknown.

However, I also do believe that we are on the path to open up more to the fact that there is more between heaven and earth as we like to believe at this point in time.

      Sylvia

  8. I’m going to preface this by saying that I don’t really deal much with chakras and alternative medicine practices much. But this was a very enlightening read. I love essential oils for aromatherapy, just to relax, but unfortunately I have to stick with candles and such as I have cats and foster cats and many essential oils are toxic to them.

But fun story is that I was seeing a massage therapist for my back. She also practiced Reiki. So it was an interesting experience. She unfortunately wasn’t able to help me, but she also admitted it honestly that each session I’d come back all knotted up again so she was basically releasing the same tension in my back three times a week. I was quite impressed with her. Massage therapy for healing hurts during the session, even if it feels awesome right after.

Anyway, thanks for your awesome and informative article!

    1. Thanks for taking the time to comment, appreciated.

I like the fact that you have a Massage therapist which also knows Reiki. To experience Reiki also means that you go for it for some time to, perhaps, start to understand, as an example following your comment, why your back is tension up over and over again.

      Just some food for thoughts.

      Sylvia

  9. In this commercial world that we live in we tend to forget how to look deep within us as often times it is there that you will find what you are looking for. I do agree that we need to use the power of visualization and imagination through the 6th chakra. This is a very enlightening article, thanks for sharing.

    1. Thank you for commenting, appreciated and I am glad you have found this article on the 6th chakra enlightening.

  10. Good afternoon Sylvia,

As usual, I also enjoyed your new post on the 6th Chakra. Our Pituitary Gland is said to be the seat of our soul. What does the modern human do? He turns this so important gland to stone with Fluoride. Then it does not function properly anymore and the result will be that you are out of balance with nature.

Just imagine, there are studies which show Fluoride diminishes human intelligence. The fact is that the Fluoride used in drinking water is not the natural calcium fluoride mineral found in nature. It is a man-made synthetic substitute.

Luckily one can do a lot to decalcify this gland. A good water filter for your drinking water and shower. Do not buy toothpaste with Fluoride. Do not eat processed foods. Do not cook in nonstick cookware. Do not eat supplements with synthetic calcium.

With time your Pituitary Gland will be able to function to its full potential again. Once again the human will be how it was intended.

    Regards, Taetske

    1. Thank you, Taetske, for your detailed comment and for some warnings in regard to the Pituitary gland and what we can do to keep it functional.

Although I support a healthy lifestyle by eating and drinking healthy and organic foods as well beverages, we still can do more, besides buying and using healthy foods and goods by utilizing the spiritual powers we also do have since birth.

Using Reiki, as an example, just for 10 minutes every day, will not only boost our whole immune system but will balance and even heal our chakra and meridian system and of course our whole physical structure.

There are more spiritual tools available if implemented on a regular basis, can even overrule many health hazards we are facing in our daily life.

I will write more about it in the near future.

      Namaste
      Sylvia
